Proud occasion for Portglenone bowlers with Presidential honour

Portglenone Bowling Club had the privilege of hosting the Northern Ireland Provincial Bowling Association league opening and flag unfurling on Friday evening.

Kieran Adams is the 2014 NIPBA President - the first time that the Portglenone Club has had the honour of the Association Presidency in its 33-year history.

The evening began with the formal handing over of the green to the NIPBA and the unfurling of the Association flag by Kieran Adams.

Some bowls were played alongside some refreshments before a fantastic meal at The Wild Duck Inn.

Representatives from clubs throughout the whole of Ireland were in attendance, including the Bowling League of Ireland President, Mr Ronnie Shelland, who travelled all the way from Cork.

Mr Tommy Nicholl, representing Ballymena Borough Council, welcomed everyone to the Borough and especially to Portglenone and wished all clubs represented a successful season.

Formal speeches were made by the various Association Presidents, with the IBA President, Mr Errol Whitten congratulating everyone on a very successful evening.

Portglenone opened their season on Saturday with a trip to Stormont to play a friendly against the Northern Ireland Civil Service Bowling Club.

A good day’s bowling, craic and banter was had with a winning start to the season a bonus.

Portglenone’s opening league fixture of the 2014 season is away to Ballymoney on Saturday, April 26.
