Randalstown men edge closer to Town and Country title

RANDALSTOWN Veterans now have a four point lead at the summit of the INBEV Town & Country Pool League as the league enters it's final three rounds of matches of the season.

The Veterans notched up their fourth 4-1 victory in as many weeks this week with an away visit to Halfway House A, wins on the night for Colin Anderson, Frankie Brammeld, Gary Davison and Hans Kuijten made sure that the Veterans remain in the driving seat for the league title two points ahead of McAuleys whom have played a game more, with Lurig six back on 78 and league champions Glencloy a further point behind on 77, although with a game in hand over the league leaders yet to be played.

Both Lurig A and Glencloy Inn dropped points this week when the two teams met with Glencloy edging out their Cushendall opponents in a 3-2 score line. Michael Birt got the Lurig off to a great start with a fine 2-0 win over Connor McCollum. Michael Abram then levelled for Glencloy with a 2-0 victory over Paddy McAteer.

The third match was a tight affair with Glencloy’s Paul Abram being pushed all the way in his narrow 2-1 victory over John McKillop. The fourth game saw Lurig take the match to the deciding game with Declan Birt taking a 2-0 win over Stevie Morgan.

In the final game of the night Benji Birt was edged out by Glencloy Captain James Atcheson 2-1. The result in truth however will benefit the veterans as it sees both teams lose ground on the league leaders.

Elsewere on the night McAuley’s dropped more points again, and at this stage look out of the race for the league despite a 3-2 win on the road to Black Bull David Magill, John McAllister and Mark McConnell ensuring that McAuleys came away with a victory. In Glenravel,Greenhills moved above Halfway A in mid table with a fantastic 4-1 win over Lurig B despite falling behind in the first game to Lurig’s Thomas Crawley who defeated Connor Reid, from there on however it was Greenhills who took command with Paul Scullion, Ciaran Reid, Joe Larkin and Eamon Darragh.

BUSC had a similar victory at home to Heffrons with Brian Taggart saving the blushes of a whitewash for Heffron’s with a 2-0 win over Linzi McClelland, wins for the social club came from Seamus Clarke, Tony O’Neill, Jimmy Knowles and Seamus Scullion.
