Rugby at Croker...now it's GAA at Eaton Park!

SATURDAY saw the U10 Mini Section Ballymena RFC welcome All Saints GAC to Eaton Park for an afternoon of combined Rugby and Gaelic Football prior to the Ballymena senior team's clash against Dungannon.

This was the opposite of the last few years which has seen Croke Park welcome Ireland rugby Internationals.

This was the finale to a combined sports initiative undertaken over a number of weeks by both clubs to expose the children to each other's sport.

This was started by the two clubs as they have several players who play both games. The coaches were also able to exchange different techniques with each other and gain an insight into the other sport.

Ballymena Sports Development Officer Katrina McCaughern was able to secure funds from Ballymena Borough Council to help make the occasion all the more memorable, ensuring the players and parents received commemorative plaques, balls and a BBQ as part of the celebrations on the day.

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor also came along to witness proceedings and lend their support to this worthwhile endeavour. More than 40 children and their parents and families took part on the day.

The afternoon was an outstanding success and we hope that it will become an annual event. Many thanks to everyone who came along and lent their support.
