Rugby club mini coaches tune up for new season

THE coaches of the Mini and Youth section of Ballymena RFC met last Saturday to carry out some pre season training in readiness for the start of the 2012/2013 season.

It was a great turn out and hopefully everyone had a bit of fun.

The morning session with Tom Wiggins and Scott Muir covered the role of the coach and some practical tips and advice outside on Hegarty’s pitch.

All the coaches got a chance to set up drills and talk through ideas for their groups followed by a bit of football rugby style!

After lunch, the afternoon kicked off with Guy McCullough, the Club Secretary, giving a synopsis of the club’s progression through to being awarded its Club Excellence status.

A brief talk about Health & Safety responsibilities followed and Alistair Donaghy gave a very professional and interesting overview of child protection issues.

Michael Black from the Ulster Branch was also on hand to give a short gem of a presentation on session content and structure.

His clear explanation and breakdown of the key elements of a session and the whole-part-whole technique was truly informative.

The last session of the day was hosted by Harry Harpur of “The Loop”.

Harry brought his formidable team building and development consultancy skills to bear on the collective.

A fun and informative group exercise outside set the scene for preliminary work in helping to guide the Mini section towards preparing an agreed vision and set of values to guide its development over the coming seasons.
