Schoolchildren get their hands on Six Nations trophy

IRELAND’S players may struggle to get their hands on the RBS Six Nations trophy after their opening defeat by Wales - but a group of Ballymena schoolboys had no such trouble!

Rugby enthusiasts from local schools had a special sneak preview of the prestigious silverware, along with the Triple Crown trophy, courtesy of Ulster Bank, part of the competition’s sponsors Royal Bank of Scotland Group.

Guests of honour were Munster and Ireland rugby legend Alan Quinlan, along with Ulster heroes Simon Best and Andy Ward.

They discussed Ireland’s progress and chatted with local people through an informal talk and ‘question and answer’ session in the Adair Arms Hotel.

Accompanying the players on the local leg of the All-Ireland tour was Terry Robb, from Ulster Bank who said: “Ulster Bank is delighted to bring these famous trophies to Ballymena.

“Ulster Bank is also keen to support rugby at grassroots level and as community partner to the IRFU we have again launched the Ulster Bank Rugby Force initiative which supports rugby clubs across Ireland encouraging people to get involved with their local club,” added Mr Robb.
