Sean wins winter sweep event at Raceview

THE Saturday Sweep at Ballymena Golf Club was won by Sean McElroy (10) who played the 13 holes with a score of 35 points.

Having commenced his round with a dropped shot, Sean then parred the next seven holes and a birdie on the ninth brought home back to level par after nine holes with a total of 25 points.

The final four holes produced three pars plus a dropped shot on the 11th for an additional 10 points and a grand total of 35 points.

Second place was won by the club captain, Leslie Frew (!2) who posted atotal of 34 points of which 24 came from the first

nine holes.

Leslie got away to a dream start having parred the first hole, he then birdied the second and third which gave him level points for those three holes.

Having been two over gross after nine, he then parred the 10th and 11th only to shed two shots on the 12th but a par on the last hole was vital giving him 10 for the four holes.

Category one saw John Jamison (4) assemble a total of 30 points from his round of level par.

John had seven pars, three bogies and birdies on the third, ninth and 13th.

Felix McQuillan (9) won the second category with a total of 33 points having scored 24 on the first nine holes.

Having been level par on the 10th, a bogey on the 11th, a double bogey on the 12th and a birdie on the last hole.

Category three was won by Ivan McMaster who returned a total of 32 points from his handicap of 11.

Ivan parred the first six holes and was only two over gross after nine but the final four holes were costly as he went double bogey, par double bogey, par for an additional eight points.

The final category resulted in George Millar (19) having the top score of 33 of which he scored 24 on the first nine holes.

His card showed seven three pointers plus a four pointer in the second but he also had no score on the par three 10th.

The best gross card was returned by Michael Smyth (3) who played the 13 holes in two under gross with seven pars, two bogeys and birdies on the third, eighth, ninth and 12th.
