SPORTS AWARDS: Adult Sportsperson - Sharon Magee (weightlifting)

THERE was a sense of deja vu as weightlifter Sharon Magee retained her Adult Sportsperson of the Year title.

Once again, she did it in record-breaking fashion, lifting 95kg in the Irish deadlift championships to set a new world record.

Having qualified for the world championships in France, Sharon became world champion in the bench press in the 50kg m4 class, lifting 42.5kg, and world champion in the deadlift in the U50.5kg m4 class, lifting 90kg.

“It was a fantastic end to the finals in France - I got a bit of sponsorship which enabled me to go there,” said Sharon.

“I try to eat well - plenty of protein to help repair muscles, and carbohydrates and vitamins.”

Sharon has already started 2013 with a flourish by achieving an ambition of deadlifting 100kg in a recent competition.
