SPORTS AWARDS: Rio-bound Katie reflects on remarkable journey

Katie Morrow reflected on her remarkable life journey as she prepares for the biggest trip of her sporting career this summer.

The wheelchair basketball star is part of the Great Britain under-25 squad who will compete on the world’s biggest sporting stage of the Olympic Games.

The British side secured their qualification to Rio in September when they won bronze at the European Championships.

Katie’s inspiring exploits saw her collect her second prize of the night, for Sportsperson or Team with a Disability.

Katie said: “I don’t think words can describe how far I have come - Rio is going to be the highlight of my sporting career.

“The support of my family and friends has helped get me there,” added Katie, who received her award from John Blair of sponsor JBE Mechanical Electrical.

Also short-listed: Drew Cochrane (golf); Conor O’Kane (powerchair football); Darrell Erwin (handcycling).
