St Louis Grammar girls get to grips with rugby

LAST week, Year 9 girls at St Louis Grammar were given the opportunity to experience TAG rugby during a session with Tom Wiggins, Ballymena RFC's Community Development Officer.

The girls were introduced to the basic skills required and then played a series of matches where they showed that movement and handling skills learnt through netball could be put to good use when playing TAG Rugby.

This is the third year that Ballymena Rugby Club has been involved with St Louis Grammar, however this is the first occasion for the girls to get involved.

Tom says: “I know the school is committed to offering as wide a range of sport as possible to its pupils and the Rugby Club are delighted to assist. As a Club we are attempting to give as many children across the Borough as possible the opportunity to experience the joys of the game.

“Our relationship with St Louis has blossomed over the past three years and we are delighted to be working in partnership with them.”

The girls seemed to thoroughly enjoy the experience and have asked that some more rugby sessions are scheduled in for the near future.

Girls' Rugby has also now started at Eaton Park which means that should the girls want to take the experience further they can come out on a Monday night and join in the fun.
