Strikers to take on Hotshots in Knockout Cup final

This season’s Knockout Cup Final in the Ballymena and District Snooker League will be contested by Minnesota Strikers and Potters Hotshots after a couple of close semi-final matches last week.

Strikers advanced after a tense 5-3 win over Allstars. After Shaw Williamson and Gary McAleese had recorded 2-0 wins for their respective teams, Bill McKane nudged Strikers ahead with a black ball win in his opening frame against Adrian McGonagle.

Leonard McConnachie soon levelled the match again with an opening frame win against Trevor Alexander. Another win in a close frame for McKane had Strikers ahead again at 4-3.

Alexander ensured a rare final appearance for the Ballymena side by taking the second frame against Leonard McConnachie to give Strikers the 5-3 win.

In the other semi final it was even tighter as Potters Hoshots squeezed past Dunloy United by a 5-4 scoreline.

Corey Sweeney and Cathaoir Cunning and Steven McIlroy and Benny O’Kane drew their respective matches. Team captains Hotshots Willie Eakin and Dunnloys Martin Crawley couldn’t be separated in their two frames.

In keeping with the general closeness of the match Chris Moore and Brendan McTaggart also battled out a draw. Corey Sweeney and Benny O’Kane were drawn to play a single frame decider in which Corey prevailed.

In the end of season Memorial competitions Division 1 teams will compete for the Robert McFall Memorial Trophy and Division 2 sides will play for the Gerard Robb Memorial Trophy.

Robert McFall Memorial: Potters - bye; 147 Pistols v Potters Hotshots; Minnesota Strikers v Dunloy United; Minnesota Rockets v Minnesota B.

Gerard Robb Memorial: Potters Elite - bye; Parochial Lions v Dunloy Cowboys; 147 Antrim v Allstars; Seagulls Potters v Parochial Hawks.
