Sweep wins for Shannon and McGarry

THE Saturday Sweep at Ballymena Golf Club on November 10 saw Michael Shannon score a total of 34 points from his handicap allowance of fourteen for the 13 holes played.

His card was made up of seven pars, four bogeys plus a birdie on the fourth and he had a non score on the par four eighth. Michael had to defend a better last four hole total of 12 points against runner-up Roy Warwicks’s 11 points.

Roy also had a handicap of 14 but three bogeys plus a birdie fell short by one point on the last four holes. He returned five pars, seven bogeys plus that birdie on the last hole which was worth four points on its own.

Category One was won by Paul Darragh (4) who posted 30 points having had nine pars, two bogeys and birdies on the eleventh and thirteenth which was equal to a level par round.

Albert Craig (8) returned the best card in Category Two when he scored a total of thirty two points. Albert stood two under par after five holes and with fifteen points on the card. The last eight holes resulted in five bogeys, two pars then a finishing birdie for that overall total of 32 points.

Category Three resulted in Raymond Scullion (11) winning with a total of 31 points which came via six pars, five bogeys and a birdie on the fifth, but he also had a double bogey on the eighth.

Jack Harper won the final Category with a grand total of 33 points from his handicap allowance of sixteen. Having started his round with seven points from the first four holes Jack then went on a run of seven three pointers and he finished with another three pointer.

The best green return came from Dermot McElroy who played the course in three under. He scored seven pars, two bogeys, three birdies and an eagle three on the par five ninth.

On Saturday, November 17 the top score came from Kevin McGarry (7) who returned a total of 32 points and on a better last four holes outperformed Albert Craig, who although having had 33, found out that he was cut a point from the previous week. McGarry had seven pars, two bogeys then birdies on the 2nd, 9th and 10th. But against that he had a non-event on the fourth. Craig (8) scored eight pars, three bogeys plus birdies on the 9th and 13th.

Category One was won by John A. Jamieson (4) with a total of thirty points having been on level par 50 shots and that despite having dropped two shots on the first hole. In total Jamieson scored eight pars, one bogey, birdies on the 2nd, 8th and the 13th plus that double bogey on the opening hole.

William Greer took the win in Category Two with a total of 32 points. The nine handicap scored ten pars plus a dropped shot on the fourth, sixth and twelfth. He scored no birdies.

Category Three meanwhile resulted in Clifford Anderson (10) being top dog with a total of thirty points and that included a non-event on the par three seventh. In total he scored nine pars plus two bogeys and a double bogey on the par five ninth.

Michael Shannon made it a double having won overall the previous week he then won Category Four the next week when he scored 32 points but he had been cut a point for that previous week’s total.

The best gross result went to Michael Smyth who had three bogeys plus a birdie on the 8th. He had an eagle two on the par four 13th.
