A Tough week for both Vet sides

Ballymena Vets1 travelled to Randalstown last Monday afternoon where they took on a very experienced Old Bleach side. It turned out to be a very tough day for the visitors as the home team inflicted a heavy defeat on the Braid men by a margin of 23 shots.

Willie McNabb, Derek Greer, Norman Armstrong and Arnold Kenny made a decent enough start against R McCune on rink 1 and with 5 ends played there was nothing to separate the 2 rinks with the score board reading 4-4.

The Bleach men doubled their score on the 6th end and another 4 shots over the next 3 ends gave them an 8 shots advantage at the halfway stage of the contest.

Each rink won 4 of the next 8 ends and both rinks added another 7 shots to their scores so going in to the final end the score was 19-11.

The scoring concluded when the visitors picked up a single to leave the final score 19-12 to the home rink.

It took the Ballymena rink of Allen Stewart, Joe McKeown, Alan O’Loan and Alex Wilson 7 ends to register a shot against B Patton on rink 2 and by the time this had happened the home rink were already 10 shots to the good.

The next few ends were more evenly contested but with 4 ends remaining the Ballymena men were still 9 shots adrift.
