Town and Country title race is too close to call

THE destination of this year's INBEV Town and Country Pool League title as yet seems a hard one to call with three of the top four teams all losing points in recent weeks.

McAuley’s started the second half of the league as the only unbeaten team in the league, however, their form of late has been indifferent and Lurig B fully capitalised on this on Thursday night by defeating the Carnlough outfit 3-2.

Thomas Crawley and Fergal McAteer got the home side of to a flyer with wins over John McAllister and Sean Davision respectively.

David Magill then clawed one back for McAuleys defeating Matthew Crawley. This however was to be Lurig’s night and Liam Cooper sealed victory with a 2-0 win over Ryan Michell. In the final game Mark McConnell rescued a point for McAuleys to see Lurig win 3-2.

With Lurig B giving their stable mates Lurig A a helping hand in their chase for the league Lurig A needed a strong result on the road to Black Bull.

This game however was a much tighter affair than was expected and Black Bull put in a great performance to be narrowly defeated 3-2. Wins on the night for Lurig came from Declan Birt, Paddy McAteer and a final game win by John McKillop. Black Bull’s points came from Ryan Hamilton and Nigel Percy.

With Randalstown Veterans not in action this week, fellow title chasers Glencloy Inn needed a big win against BUSC to keep the pressure on at the top of the league.
