Triples team lose in Antrim

BALLYMENA travelled to Antrim last week in the Mid Week Triples league and suffered a narrow 48-53 defeat.

On rink 4 Sally Carson, John McAnally and John Greer had a close game with R McCullough.

There was never really much to separate the two rinks and with two ends remaining the scores were level at 14-14, however the Antrim triple claimed victory by 16 shots to 14 when they claimed singles on the last 2 ends.

The visiting triple of Keith Burnett, Barbara Burnett and Davy Balmer were always behind in their game with M Teer on rink 5.

The Ballymena triple only trailed by 2 shots after 10 ends but their cause was not helped when they conceded four counts of 3 shots over the remaining ends and although they fought hard they could not stop the Antrim triple from claiming victory by 20 shots to 16.

On rink 6 Robert Mark, Dessie Shaw and John Elliott made a good start against B Moore and lead by 5 shots after 11 ends.

The home rink got back in to the game when they lifted a count of 5 shots on the next end to draw level at 12-12, but the Ballymena triple replied with 6 shots on the next 2 ends to lead by 6 and although the home rink won the remaining ends it was the visitors who held on for a 18-17 victory.
