Ulster are in fifth place – six points behind Pat Lam’s men who are second – and prop Andy Warwick wants to carry the European form back into the domestic competition.

“They were two great performances against Toulouse and we have been building really well over the past few weeks. Training over the last few weeks has been going really well even when results weren’t going our way,” said the Ballymena man.

“It’s great that it is coming through on match night now and hopefully we’ll can keep building and we’ll show it again against Connacht this week.

“We need a big performance and get the result. They are a well-coached side under Pat Lam and we’ll be prepared for anything they bring in the game. The weather can be a massive effect at the Sportsground.”

In both Toulouse games Ulster were 100 per cent on their own scrum ball.

“It was very pleasing, Toulouse are a massive pack and you can’t ask for much more on your own ball,” Warwick added.

“We just focus on our own scrum. We can’t make the referee’s decision for him so we have to show the best picture we can and we have worked very hard in training and that is evident now.”

Warwick’s last start for Ulster was in the defeat against Munster.

“I got a bit of a knock there and Kyle has come in and done really well and it’s great to add that competition,” he added.

“He has been magnificent but hopefully I can put a bit of pressure on him if I get the opportunity. There is plenty of strength in depth in the loose head position now so you can’t afford to slip up.

“Connacht have a really good scrum and set piece and we’ll hope to match it and get the better of it.

“We are all up for it and we will be looking to bring what we have been on the training ground to the game.”
