William '˜Kean' to snap up Raceview prize

The top score of 44 points came from club vice-captain William McKean (19) and even with that, he had to depend on a better second nine hole total from Gerard McCann.

McKean went through the front nine in five over gross for a total of 22 points and he added a similar on the back nine where he had three pars and six bogeys.

Runner-up McCann, playing off a handicap of 17, had an outstanding opening nine holes of six pars, a bogey and birdies on the sixth and eighth for a blistering 27 points.

The second nine brought Gerard down to earth with a bump as he was only able to add a further 17 points from three pars, three bogeys, two double bogeys and a three dropped shots at the 11th, which produced no points.

Third prize went to Allan Foster (21) who scored 43 points and a total of 24 points on the inward nine proved vital.

Foster’s outward nine included five fives for 19 points but his inward nine was very rewarding where he had four pars and five bogeys.

Andrew Adams took the fourth nett prize with a score of 42 points and on a better second nine from Charlie Robinson and Brian Casey.

Andrew got off to a flying start with a birdie, par, birdie start and he had 20 points at the turn but in contrast, he scored 22 points on the second nine.

Robinson (16) scored equal nines of 21 points and a double bogey, bogey finish prevented him from finishing further up the list but he still managed to pip Brian Casey, whose biggest regret will be a non-score at the 13th.

Michael Smyth (4) kept up his good form with another best gross return of one over par, 69 shots.

SUNDAY OPEN

The early birds caught the prizes in the Sunday open stableford where John Hood, playing off a handicap of 22, came out on top with a total of 41 points.

His first nine produced 20 points, that despite a non-score on the par three fourth, and he added a further 21 points to win by a single point from Chris Worthington.

The 19-handicapper had two non-scores in the front nine of 18 points but he improved on the homeward stretch where he recorded 22 points.

Third nett prize was won by Gavin Mark (26) with a total of 38 points.

Kevin Higgins, playing off 11, won the best gross prize with a score of 76 shots, finishing his round with a birdie.

LADIES

Jill Crockard won the latest event at Ballymena Golf Club when she claimed first prize in the PGA Medallion.

In the stableford format she accumulated 37 points to edge out runner-up Kerry Rose McElroy courtesy of a better back nine.
