IT'S your chance to own a host of memories of an Ulster sporting icon.

The 10th anniversary of the death of motorcycling legend Joey Dunlop was recorded last week.

One of the people who witnessed Joey’s record-breaking exploits at first hand was former Ballymena Times photographer Stephen Davison, who has produced a new version of his book Joey Dunlop: King of the Roads.

Joey Dunlop’s racing career began in 1969, and his yellow helmet and number three bike became synonymous with high-octane wins.

One of the greatest motorcyclists of all time, and five times World Champion, he received an MBE for his motorcycling prowess.

But there was more to this rider than racing. He also received an OBE for the many single-handed relief trips he ran to Romania and the Balkans, bringing food, clothing and supplies to war-torn areas.

On July 2, 2000, the 48-year-old Dunlop crashed during a race in Estonia and tragically lost his life. The sporting world was shocked. His funeral was attended by more than 50,000 people.

A fitting record of one of the greatest motorcyclists the sport has ever seen.
