Edenmore in Special Olympic fundraiser

LOCAL broadcaster and Special Olympics Ireland Patron, Gerry Kelly, is to host his inaugural Golf Classic for Special Olympics Ulster at Edenmore Golf & Country Club in Magheralin on Friday September 28.

Speaking at the launch of this new fundraiser, Gerry said: “Special Olympics has been very close to my heart since I first got involved during the 2003 World Summer Games.

“The athletes inspire me every time I meet them; they are so dedicated to their sport and benefit so greatly from being involved. They deserve our support, which is why I am delighted to be hosting what promises to be a great fundraiser. Edenmore is a first-class course in a magnificent setting and I would urge all keen golfers to sign up as quickly as possible.”

Special Olympics Ulster’s Regional Fundraising Co-ordinator, Ronan McCay added: “Gerry Kelly is an outstanding patron for Special Olympics and we are delighted he is so enthusiastically involved in this golf classic. Every penny of profit from the day will be invested in our athletes – and every penny will make a real difference for them as they pursue their dreams through sport.

“As well as golfers, we are keen to recruit local businesses to support this event. We greatly appreciate all sponsorship we receive, especially in these difficult times. Those who support us know they are helping an organisation that changes people’s lives for the better and for ever. Anyone wishing to discuss sponsorship options with me, or just to sign up to play, can get in touch with me on 028 9089 2996.”

The Manager of Edenmore Golf & Country Club, Deaglan O’Hagan said: “We are delighted to be working with Special Olympics Ulster and Gerry to ensure this event is a massive success for their great cause.

“We have put together an excellent package, which will guarantee a memorable day for everyone who takes part. I would urge everyone to sign up quickly, as demand will be very high.”
