Summer trip to Oklahoma

They’ll be starring in the production of the hit musical at Newtownabbey’s Theatre at the Mill which opens this week.

Oklahoma runs from Friday, August 12 to Saturday, August 20 at 7.15pm, and matinee showings on Saturdays at 2.30pm.

Director Peter Corry said: “Audiences can look forward to singing and dancing, authentic costumes, and impressive spinning ropes by the cowboys. There is also lots of comedy, which I find difficult as a director because I find it hard not to laugh!

“With songs such as, “Oh What a Beautiful Mornin’,” “People Will Say We’re in Love,” “The Surrey With the Fringe On Top,” and of course the titular “Oklahoma” this really is a musical treat for all the family in your local theatre this summer.”

For those not familiar with Oklahoma the show is set in the Indian territory at the turn of the century when cattlemen and farmers were fighting over fences and water rights. In the middle of that controversy are two more rivalries.

Breaking all Broadway box office records when it opened in 1943, Oklahoma was the first collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein - the legendary team who went on to create Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I and The Sound of Music.
