Ballymena cadets are just sea slick!

BALLYMENA Sea Cadets had six cadets selected in the team of 24 which made up the Northern Ireland Cadet team to go to the National Canoe Regatta at Royal Victoria Dock in London.

The regatta has four sections Senior Boys, Senior Girls, Junior Boys and Junior Girls and the UK is divided into seven areas for competition with 400 unitS, of which Northern Ireland has 10.

The Ballymena cadets had one representative in Senior Boys - Connor Phillips; three in Junior Boys - Timothy McGarvey, Neil Gregg and Philip Crawford; with two in Junior Girls - Gracious Philips and Tiersha McKenna, and after training at Sixmilewater for five weeks they were up for the competition.

The six came home with five Gold, two Silvers and two Bronze, as follows: Gracious - two gold & one Silver; Timothy - one gold; Neil - one gold; Tiersha - one gold; Philip - one silver; Connor - two bronze.

To add to this there is a trophy in each section for highest points and Northern Ireland won the Senior Girls’, Junior Girls’ and Junior Boys’ trophies with the overall trophy, and the Senior boys missed their trophy by one point.

The Unit are hopeful that we can do as well, if not better next year as this was the first year competing for most of the cadets.
