Portrush youngsters enjoy ‘Miniversity’

Last week saw the start of Miniversity Creative Learning Club at Portrush Primary and St Patrick’s Primary School Portrush.

Miniversity is a careers themed after schools computer club.

Each week children learn about a different career whilst honing their ICT and presentation skills. The topics are wide ranging and include traditional favourites such as Accountant, Lawyer and Doctor but also include the latest career paths such as Vlogger, Digital Marketer, SEO consultant and coding to name but a few.

The lesson plans are specifically designed for children and use a variety of computer applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Windows Movie Maker, Publisher, email and the internet.

Miniversity captures the growing need for “edutainment”, which seeks to improve learning by making it fun and it certainly succeeds in that!

The business was started five years ago by Michelle Owens Gregory, a Microsoft IT trainer with over 20 years experience and is being brought to the North Coast by Alex Clarke and Sheelagh Murphy who between them have had successful careers in law, advertising and publishing.

The innovative project runs in 35 schools across NI.
