Alzheimers support in Portglenone

Alzheimers sufferers and their families or carers in the Portglenone area will soon be able to take advantage of a four week information and support programme right on their doorstep.

The Alzheimer’s Society, supported by NHSCT, will present their ‘Carer Information and Support Programme’ (CrISP) which consists of four two-and-a-half hour sessions in Portglenone Community Centre.

Each programme will accommodate up to 12 participants and they commence on Friday 8 November from 1-3.30pm for four consecutive weeks.

Session 1 – Understanding dementia explores the physical, psychological and emotional implications that dementia may have on the person with dementia.

Session 2 – Legal and Money Matters explores legal and financial issues to help carers understand about the importance of planning for the future, mental capacity etc

Session 3 – Providing Support and care explores concerns/challenges that arise when supporting a person with dementia, communication with and understanding the person with dementia.

Session 4 – Coping day to day & next steps – explores the physical, psychological & emotional implications that dementia may have on the carer, including their relationships, how to look after themselves and identification of relevant support and services.
