It follows a number of queries as to why the landmark did not reopen along with outdoor attractions on April 23.

Hide AdA DfC spokesperson said: "Carrickfergus Castle falls under indoor visitor attractions. The Executive under the Coronavirus Health Regulations have given an indicative date of May 24, 2021 for the re-opening of indoor visitor attractions.
"Initial opening will be via pre-booking. Staff will be on site from May 17 to take bookings in person; bookings can also be made by telephoning 02893 351273."
The castle faced a delay in reopening last year, with the Department pointing to "particular challenges" due to the limitations of space such as narrow staircases and walkways.
Meanwhile, returning visitors will once again be able to view the restored roof of the Great Tower.
The £1million project was completed in February last year, shortly before the UK entered its first period of lockdown restrictions.
