Businesses invited to cash in on Londonderry UK City of Culture 2013

BUSINESSES who want to cash in on an expected increase in demand for tourist accommodation during Londonderry UK City of Culture 2013 are invited to sign up for workshops being organised by Derry City Council to take place on Wednesday, November 7, 2012.

Peter Appleton, Interim Strategic Director for Derry City Council said it was not about ‘displacing’ existing accommodation but meeting the demand with visitor numbers expected to peak at over 300,000 during the Fleadh next August.

Mr Appleton said: “These workshops will be invaluable for people considering new business opportunities for accommodation during 2013 to maximise tourism opportunities arising from UK City of Culture.

“It is not about displacing existing accommodation providers, but ensuring that there will be enough accommodation for visitors during the peak summer season and for major events next year when existing accommodation will be a full capacity.

“The workshops provide an opportunity to receive further information and advice from Derry City Council, Northern Ireland Tourist Board and Derry Visitor and Convention Bureau.”

There are two workshops taking place on Wednesday 7th November. From 2pm-4pm at the Playhouse Theatre or from 7pm-9pm at the Waterfoot Hotel. The workshops are free to attend but registration is essential.
