Chantalle crowned Young Artist of Year

At a sparking awards evening in the Braid Arts Centre in Ballymena recently, The Northern Ireland Young Artist of 2016 was announced as 24-year-old Chantalle Coombes from Portaferry.

She walked away with a cheque for £1000 and a trophy.

Chantalle is greatly inspired by life in the rural Ards Peninsula with its colours, nature and abundance of wildlife.

Nikkita Morgan from Castlewellan won a community arts commission worth £500 from Mid And East Antrim Council while Cullybackey artist Matthew Allen and Daniel Coleman from Derrytrasna in County Armagh won highly commended trophies.

The competiton is organised by the Rotary Club of Ballymena, and competition Chairman, Rotarian Roy McKeown said: “The purpose of the competition is to encourage Northern Ireland Young Artists and to help them build a professional career.”

He thanked Vision Express for their sponsorship of the competition and Mid & East Antrim Council for their support.

The work of all the finalists will remain in the Theatre Gallery at the Braid Arts Centre in Ballymena until the end of April.
