Academy event will aid Asha
Ballymena Academy is to host an event to raise funds for and awareness of a charity dedicated to improving the lives of Delhi’s slum dwellers.
The Asha Dinner will be held in the school on Wednesday, September 23, for the charity which works tirelessly on behalf of slum residents.
Founded by Dr Kiran Martin in 1988, it works with around 500,000 people in nearly 60 slum colonies of Delhi and aims to transform lives by making healthcare more accessible, empowering people to make changes and improving access to education.
A team of 13 pupils and three teachers from Ballymena Academy will be heading out to work with the charity for 10 days at the end of October.
The team consists of students Lucy Bill, Sasha Bill, Tori Coulter, Rebecca Gray, Julie Kernohan, Michael Knowles, David McCluggage, Ella McDonald, Jonathon McKeown, Cameron McNeill, Molly McCullough, Lyndsey Simpson and Emma Smyth.
They will be supported by staff members Dr Catherine Donnelly, Mr John Donnelly and Mrs Elizabeth Liggat.
The dinner on September 23 will be the final fundraising event for the group and will include a presentation by
team members about their trip, their aspirations and how the funds raised will be used.
Tickets are priced at £25 each and can be ordered by contacting Elizabeth Liggat on 028 2565 2782.
