Action call over '˜pothole plague'

The assembly candidate for the constituency has called for the Stormont Executive ‘to get its act in gear’ over the issue.

“Stormont needs to ensure that sufficient funding is set aside to combat this pothole plague in our North Antrim constituency, otherwise some roads could become accident blackspots if vehicles either hit these potholes, or drivers swerve to avoid them.

“I call on TransportNI to provide a full survey of all rural roads throughout North Antrim so that the menace of potholes can be eradicated.”

He added: “It is not just on rural roads where these poor conditions can exist. The Executive is not setting enough cash aside to cope with the need to address resurfacing and repair issues on local side streets in urban areas and estates, some of which are in a very poor condition.

“There needs to be a better balanced budget when it comes to capital and reserve spending on roads throughout the constituency,” said Mr Wright.
