Ahoghill man’s lifestory DVD raises over £10,000

SALES of a DVD on the life of County Antrim farm machinery contractor John Greer, from Ahoghill, has raised over £10,000 for local health charity NI Chest Heart and Stroke (NICHS).

The DVD called ‘A Lifetime in Agriculture’ was on sale for one year, from the anniversary of his death in January 2011.

John Greer passed away suddenly at the age of 59 having suffered from high blood pressure for two to three years. John was well known in the agricultural community where he worked as an agricultural contactor, mostly in the County Antrim and County Londonderry areas.

John Greer’s sister, Margaret Johnston, said: “We are delighted to have raised so much money in memory of John, he is greatly missed by all his family and friends, he was so well known that we wanted to do something to commemorate his life and passion for farming and love of machinery. So the DVD seemed the perfect thing as it would also help the work of NI Chest Heart and Stroke.”

Valarie Saunders, NICHS Fundraising Co-ordinator said: “I would like to thank the Greer family for supporting NI Chest, Heart and Stroke, the DVD has been a great success. As a local charity all money raised will be used to support local services of the charity such as cardiac, stroke and respiratory support groups across Northern Ireland, as well as Stroke Family Liaison teams who help local families to live with life after a stroke.”

The Greer family would like to thank the following outlets who sold the DVDs for NI Chest Heart and Stroke, John McElderry, Ballymoney, William Hamill & Sons Ballymena, D & M Farm Services, Eglinton, Martin Hanna & Partners, Ballygowan, Erwin Agric-Care, Crumlin, T.
