Approval for wood recycling facility

PLANS to erect a wood recycling facility at Raloo have been given the go-ahead by the Department of Environment.

The proposed facility at 31 Crosshill Road is to be used for internal shredding, screening, pelleting and firelighter manufacturing. There will also be sorting and bailing of plastic, cardboard and metal for onward transfer. The application also includes an extension to an existing warehouse.

At the latest meeting of the public services committee, Larne mayor Andy Wilson asked planners for assurances that all wood recycling activities would be carried out indoors and under cover.

Planning officer Joy Hargie confirmed this would be the case and added that there would be no external storage of waste.
