Kathleen Hoey, whose address was given as Oakgrove, Portadown, was fined £250 for common assault and also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that on March 24 this year police received a report of a domestic incident at Killicomaine Park in Portadown.

When they arrived they saw the defendant banging on the front door and shouting through the letter box.

The injured party had broken up with the defendant a couple of days previously.

He was not expecting her but she arrived in a drunken state.

She asked him to get her a taxi and as he was calling one she came into the house and refused to leave.

Hoey grabbed him by his vest and ripped it before punching him a number of times.

He sustained a cut above his eye, bruising and a cut to his bottom lip.

When she was interviewed she denied any assault and said she had been assaulted.

She had been on a high dose of medication at the time.

The injured party later made a statement of withdrawal saying that he felt under pressure from members of the community.

He intended to return home to Scotland.

A solicitor representing the defendant said she had been in a relationship with the injured party for one and a half years and had trouble accepting it was over.

Deputy District Judge Joe Rice said it was a shame that Hoey lost her good character but it was a one off situation.

He added that the offence was at the lower end of the scale and in all the circumstances would deal with the matter by way of a fine.
