Ballyclare roadworks: Angry locals say they weren't informed about closures

Several roads, including Main Street, were closed to traffic from Saturday evening (June 4) until Sunday afternoon (June 5).

Members of the public have claimed that they did not receive notification of the planned road closures and were forced to make alternative travel plans at short notice.

Diversion signs were put in place around the town, while a PSNI sign appeared at the lower end of The Square warning that ‘unauthorised entry’ was an offence.

One disgruntled Doagh Road resident contacted the Times, saying: “There was absolutely no warning about the road closure whatsoever. It caused complete chaos in the town on Saturday night.”

A number of people also took to Facebook to voice their concerns.

A resident from the Green Road said: “Absolutely fuming at this issue. We were unaware of the of roadworks - disheartened to say the least.”

Another resident added: “Community not adequately informed of disruption and time schedule of disruption.”

Some local residents said that they had received a letter detailing that the work would be taking place, but that the dates stated in the letter did not relate to this past weekend.

Commenting on the issue of the letter, one resident said: “It’s a joke as the dates are incorrect. No information arrived in the post to inform us, why is this information not posted through the doors?”

Further road closures will be implemented over the coming weeks as the programme of environmental improvement works continues. These dates will include the weekend commencing Saturday, June 11 and Saturday, June 25.
