A spokesperson for DRD said: “Roads Service’s Ballymoney office first received telephone calls just before 4pm Thursday 25 July, about roads being flooded in the Lower Main Street / Whitepark Road area of Bushmills, and in particular within the Dundarave housing development. “Roads Service operatives were deployed to the area immediately with around 300 sandbags which were distributed to home and businesses in the affected area. “Other roads flooded included the Castlecatt Road, Straid Road, Priestland Road and Dunluce Road approaches into the town as well as Main Street and Bridge Street.

“The surface flooding overwhelmed the road drainage system. The road flooding was short-lived and as the intensity of the rainfall reduced, the road drainage cleared surface water away quickly.”
