Cannabis found in bedroom

A number of bags of herbal cannabis were found by police in the bedroom of a house in Lurgan, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Wednesday.

Daniel Duffy (20), Union Street, Lurgan, was fined £200, and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy, for possession of the drug on September 18 last year.

The court heard police went to an address in Union Street because of a disturbance and, on searching a bedroom, they found a small plastic container which had individual bags of herbal cannabis.

In an interview, Duffy said he had never seen it before.

The case had been adjourned so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained.

The report showed he was not suitable for community service because of health issues.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said he did not think the offence crossed the custody threshold.

Imposing the fine, he told Duffy this was his final warning.
