Carnegie Hall date for Choir

Carnegie Hall, the world famous New York building, will be the concert venue for the talented local girls, who are conducted by Head of Music, Mr Richard McCreary.

The choir were invited to perform in New York after their high standard of performance in the final of the BBC Radio Ulster School Choir of the Year. Their performance, on Monday, January 18, 2016, Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend, will take place in the Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall under the baton of Dr. Jonathon Griffith. Karl Jenkins will be the composer-in-residence.

The local choir will join with other outstanding choristers from around the world to form the ‘Distinguished Concerts Singers International’, a choir of distinction.

Last Saturday, the choir held their first fund raiser - a coffee morning and cake sale in the school’s Lodge Road campus. Thanks are expressed to

Dawn McHenry and her team of parents and friends for all the time and effort that went into the planning for the morning and also to the local community for their support in attending the event.

Fund raising continues throughout September and October with the next event being held on Friday, September 25 in the Lodge Road Assembly Hall specifically for teenagers.

This will be a Barn Party run by JLT socials (Jesus Lives Today) from 9pm until 12 midnight with admission £5 per person.

A Table Quiz is then planned for Friday, 2nd October in the Port Hotel, Portrush.

The fund raising culminates with a ‘Gala Evening of Music’ in the Diamond Hall at the Ulster University, Coleraine on Friday 30th October.

This event will be compèred by local girl Sarah Travers.

It will feature artists including Linley Hamilton, Kaz Hawkins, the Culbertson brothers with Rod McVey, local band ‘The Rhythm Rascals’ and past pupils Helen Aiken, Gillian and John Wisener among others.

The choir rehearsed for the first time in early September and will continue their intensive training in preparation for New York as well as appearances at local venues in the upcoming months including the inaugural Carol Service to be held in St. Patrick’s Church, Coleraine in December.
