Carrickfergus health champion training '˜oversubscribed'

A total of 13 community development workers attended the one-day Community Health Champion event hosted by Mid and Mid and East Antrim Council.

The training was delivered by Jenny Hanna of the Community Development Health Network (CDHN) with funding secured by Castlemara Residents’ Association through the South Antrim Community Network which is supported by the Public Health Agency.

Participants learned about the many factors which can impact on an individual’s health and how they can help address issues within their local areas.

One of those who took part said: “It made me think about the social aspect rather than just the health of someone in the community. So going forward I will now think more about why a person’s health is suffering and what social factors might be causing their ill health.”

Anne Thompson, of South Antrim Community Network, said: “The project’s aim is to promote and support effective community involvement in health and social wellbeing improvement. It was great to see that this training event was oversubscribed and I am hopeful that the participants will become increasingly involved in helping to improve health and wellbeing within their local communities.”
