Climber rescued on north coast

Ballycastle Coastguard were quickly on the scene despite the roads being extremely busy with the Olympic torch.

Her situtation was acessed and it was decided that the only way to get her removed was by using a SAR Helicopter.

Belfast Coastgaurd who were co ordinating the rescue asked for the assistance of the Irish Coastguard and a search and rescue helicopter was scrambled from Sligo.

The helicopter extracted the climber from the cliff face to a waiting team of paramedics from the NIAS and Ballycastle and Coleraine Coastguard who were on the ground where she was taken to Coleraine Hospital.

This season has seen a number of serious incidents on the North Coast where it has been necessary to call on the services of the search and recue helicopter based at Sligo and the Royal Navy SAR Helicopter based at HMS Ganett in Preswick. They have been to Fairhead, Ballintoy, Kenbane and Rathlin Island making this a very busy start to the season.
