Coagh set for final promotion push

COAGH United sealed a 2-0 victory against the PSNI on Tuesday night to keep up their promotion push. Goals from Johnny Black and left back James Ferguson sealed a 2-0 victory at Newforge.

Just a few miles up the road, Knockbreda were defeated by third place Dundela at Breda Park. Victory for Dundela has pushed them right back into title contention although Knockbreda and Dundela have played one more game than Coagh.

Coagh face basement club Chimney Corner on Saturday while Dundela host Wakehurst at Wilgar Park. Knockbreda face a long journey to Portstewart. Lurgan Celtic are still in with a slim chance of promotion, as they also have a game in hand over Knockbreda and Dundela.

However, that game in hand is against Coagh next Tuesday evening at Hagan Park. (Kick off 7pm)

With only three games left in the Championship 2 season for Coagh, it promises to be one of the most exciting title races in recent memory.

Nonetheless this last minute dash to the finish line could come to an abrupt end if Coagh do not defeat Chimney Corner on Saturday. The basement side look set to drop out of the Irish League but recorded an impressive 4-2 victory over Killymoon Rangers on Tuesday night.

If they overcome the challenge of Chimney Corner then Coagh face yet another crucial tie against Lurgan Celtic on Tuesday evening

Victory for Coagh over their Armagh rivals would dash any hopes of promotion for the Lurgan outfit.

With the Premier League and Championship 1 champions already decided, attention will turn to the Championship 2 over the next ten days.

Any one of the top four can still win the title and the next three games will determine whether or not Coagh will make a return to Championship One.
