Munteanu, with an address in Tallaght, Dublin, faced a charge of robbing Mr Kerrigan’s wallet on August 23, as well as the theft of iPhones from two women on August 22. Munteanu admitted the offences.

An investigating officer said an investigation was launched following the disappearance of Mr Kerrigan and CCTV was viewed as part of this investigation which showed Mr Kerrigan being robbed by two males. Two thefts were reported around the same time and the CCTV showed the same men were involved.

Unable to identify the perpetrators, the police sent stills from the footage to the media and Gardai provided them with the men’s identity.

Opposing bail, the officer said police feared Munteanu would flee the country, as he did not have an address or any ties to Northern Ireland. The second male has already left.
