Cookstown woman wins prestigious Ballroom dancing competition

Following her success in the '˜2015 All Ireland Championships', Eleanor Turkington from Cookstown entered, the '˜Champions of Tomorrow' Pro/Am Competition this January in Blackpool.

The competition, held in the world famous ‘Empress Ballroom’ at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool draws dancers from across the UK and further afield.

In Blackpool, Eleanor was dancing with her professional partner Sebastian Prekun, ‘Five times All-Ireland Ballroom Champion’ (SEBA International Dance Academy).

They were up against strong competition from seven couples in the final, dancing the fast Quickstep, Viennesse Waltz and Tango under the scrutiny of 8 adjudicators.

Eleanor and Sebastian were placed first in the top ‘Under 40‘s Ballroom’ section and having reached this level, will now need to look to the International Stage for further challenges.

As a member of ‘DanceSport Federation of Ireland’ (who promote Ballroom and Latin dancing and run regular competitions) Eleanor, also a qualified instructor will have a full programme of classes available from the autumn.

Tuition will include Children’s and Adult classes... as well as classes for Wedding Couples preparing for that important ‘First Dance’.
