Council issues guide on local reform plans to residents

An information magazine outlining the changes that will be taking place in local government and how it will affect current residents in Lisburn City and Castlereagh has been delivered to all homes in both areas.

Compiled on behalf of the Statutory Transition Committee for the new Lisburn City and Castlereagh District Council, which will come into being in April 2015, the Magazine highlights the boundary changes to the new electoral area, the enhanced powers of the new Councils and the transferring facilities and areas to the new Belfast Council area.

Chairman of the Statutory Transition Committee, Alderman James Tinsley, explained that the Committee wanted to keep all residents advised on how local government reform will affect local residents.

“There has been much talk over several years about local government reform and with the process now gathering significant momentum it is important that residents know how the changes will affect them.

“With the Shadow Council Elections taking place this coming May and the new Council officially opening its doors in just over twelve months it is a time of change and we will continue to keep residents abreast of these developments as they happen,” said Alderman Tinsley.
