Council wins top award in diamond jubilee competition

LISBURN City Council’s Diamond Jubilee Flowerbed has won 1st prize in a County Antrim Competition, celebrating the historic occasion.

Councils across the County Antrim area were invited by the Lord Lieutenant of County Antrim, Mrs Joan Christie, to design a floral display to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The displays were judged on design, plants used and overall impact and the Council was delighted that Lisburn’s entry, located on The Queens Road, at the rear of Castle Gardens took the top honour.

Receiving the Diamond Jubilee Trophy from the Lord Lieutenant, The Mayor, Alderman William Leathem said: “The Council is delighted to have won this Award, which is a fitting end to a wonderful summer of celebration and events to mark Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee.”

The floral display was designed and planted by the Council’s Grounds Maintenance Team, and the Council’s Chairman of the Environmental Services Committee, Councillor Andrew Ewing congratulated the Team on their achievements.

“The Diamond Jubilee Display at the Queens Road is just one fine example of the skills displayed by our Grounds Maintenance Team right across the City.
