Man admits assaulting his cousin

A man who admitted assaulting his cousin has been given a one-year conditional discharge.

James Harkin (25), from Elm Close, was charged with assaulting a man on December 5, 2013.

The PPS said police received report of an assault from the injured party, and the Court heard a verbal altercation had taken place after which the injured party was punched in the face.

A defence solicitor said there was “bad blood” between the two men. He said Harkin cared full time for his grandmother (83).

Deputy District Judge John Connolly gave Harkin credit for his early plea and having stayed out of trouble.
