Solidarity on minute’s silence in memory of David Black

ALL political parties on Derry City Council showed solidarity on Monday afternoon in relation to last week’s murder of prison officer, Mr David Black.

A DUP proposal to move business at a confidential meeting into the public domain in order to observe a minutes silence in memory of the murdered 52-year-old, shot dead as he travelled to his work at HMP Magheraberry along the M1 motorway, was unanimously supported by all parties on the local authority.

DUP Alderman Maurice Devenney told the Sentinel: “This is very welcome news-that all political parties on Council chose to observe the minutes silence in honour of David Black. This shows that this country has moved on and those responsible for Mr Black’s death will not succeed in their efforts to drag us back into the past.”

It also emerged that all political representatives on the council will be party to a letter of condolence to the wife and family of David Black.
