Stole goods from Tesco

A 30-year-old woman has been handed a 12 month conditional discharge after admitting stealing £244.56 of goods from Tesco.

Appearing at Craigavon Magistrates Court on Wednesday, Gemma Anne Benson of Drumilly Green in Portadown admitted stealing the goods on April 16 this year.

The court heard that Benson left the store with a trolley load of goods without paying.

Deputy Judge Neil Rafferty asked what was in the trolley.

A lawyer told the court it contained a ‘mish mosh’ of goods.

All goods recovered were fit for resale.

The court heard that Benson was a graduate of politics of Queen’s University and the mother of two children.

A lawyer said Benson had pyschological issues.

Judge Rafferty said: “There are professional shoplifters. You are not a professional shoplifter, it is quite clear.”

He said he didn’t regard probation as appropriate in this case. Benson was given 12 months conditional discharge.

Judge Rafferty said: “I think you have been very foolish.”
