Woman arrested after Muslim girl assaulted

The 24-year-old Muslim woman had been walking along the Gilford Road when she was verbally and physically attacked.

Sergeant Stephen Downey said: “Around 4.30pm on Saturday, a 24-year-old woman was walking along Gilford Road when a vehicle stopped and the passenger shouted racist comments. The female passenger got out of the car and proceeded to assault the victim, continuing to use racist language.

“A 40 year old woman was later arrested. Following interview, the female was released on bail pending further enquiries.

“We are treating this as a hate crime and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that may assist our investigation. We can be contacted in Portadown on 101, quoting ref: 920 270615.”
