Staff and pupils in Cullybackey High School are planning a summer mission trip to Moldova (Eastern Europe) in July with an organisation called ‘Vision of Good Hope’, a Northern Ireland based Christian charity which has provided and runs an orphanage and rehabilitation centre in Moldova.

The demand for places on the mission trip was so great - 18 pupils and seven staff - that the group has been split in two with each group going for a period of one week between the July 4-18.

All those going are paying for their trip costs in full and so any money raised will directly benefit the children in Moldova.

As part of the trip the school party will be working in different orphanages in Moldova, including the one run by the organisation.

A spokesperson said: “We plan to help the orphanages by providing toys and equipment for the children.

“We also hope to help give money towards medical aid and for help in schools.

To provide aid in Moldova we will be involved in a number of fund-raising activities up until July. We already are very thankful to all those who bought quiz sheets. Congratulations go to E Stewart, M Gregg and A Anderson who won prizes.”

Some of the other fund-raising activities planned include: a sponsored abseil from the Europa hotel (May 7); a pampered chef evening (June 3); a table quiz (June).
