Donaghmore drama group to pull the curtains on international festival in Russia

A group of local actors is to star in the finale to a major international drama festival in Russia.

Donaghmore based Bardic Theatre has been invited to give the closing performance at the 2nd International Martin McDonagh Festival in the Russian city of Perm in October with their acclaimed production of The Cripple of Inishmaan.

Located on the remote Island of Arran off the West of Ireland during the early 1930s, the play explores themes such as poverty, sex and violence in McDonagh’s darkest style, managing at the same time to produce what is a hilarious comedy masterpiece.

Before their departure to Russia, the company will present ‘The Cripple of Inishmaan’ on Friday 23rd September at Bardic Theatre in an exclusive ‘last chance to see’ performance.

“We toured The Cripple of Inishmaan throughout Ireland during March/April to sell out audiences,” said Director, Sean Faloon.

“The festival picked up on this online, together with Jim McKeown’s excellent video trailer, and this prompted them to issue the invite to the Festival which was conceived by Theatre U Mosta artistic director Sergei Fedotov - the first person to direct the Russian translation of McDonagh’s Hangmen in 2015.

“Theatre in the Mid Ulster area is in a good place,” adds Sean, “and now, it’s in a good place internationally.”
