Driver in minor collision picked up wing mirror and drove on

After he had been involved in a collision with a parked car a Lurgan man drove on after getting out of his car and picking up his wing mirror.

But a neighbour saw what happened and noted details of his car which were reported to police.

Thirty two year old Steven Cranston, Glenshane Avenue, Lurgan, appeared last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

For failing to stop, failing to remain and failing to report an accident he was sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for two years, and banned from driving for two years.

A £120 fine and a two year ban were imposed for driving without due care and attention. Cranston was also fined £120 for obstructing police.

A solicitor for the defendant said his last driving offences were in 2005. He had been momentarily distracted which resulted in the collision with the parked vehicle.

She added that it was a momentary lapse of concentration.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said the police investigation had been hampered by the attitude of the defendant.
