The DUP’s Trevor Clarke said: “I am disgusted at the comments of Sinn Fein’s Sean McGlinchy in Council last night (Tuesday), who in the course of a rambling tirade, considered it fitting to flaunt his terrorist history in a debate on the Syrian refugee crisis.

“It’s no secret councillor McGlinchey was an IRA terrorist, and was convicted and jailed for the murders of six innocent souls on the Railway Road in 1973.

“Last night the councillor confirmed he in no way regrets his IRA membership, and by extension, it is clear he has no regret for his murderous actions.

“Anyone with an ounce of decency or compassion would recognise his comments as being insensitive and provocative in the extreme. They have no place in any forum let alone a council chamber.

“Unapologetic justifiers of terror are not fit for representational politics.

“Those who elect them should think twice about what they are voting for.”
