DVA clampdown on local car tax dodgers

CAR Tax dodgers in Ballymena have been ‘catching the clamp’ recently with the Driver and Vehicle Agency on patrol in the borough.

At least ten vehicles in the borough were clamped between January 23 and 25 as the ‘clamp down’ on car tax gets into gear.

One clamped vehicle was reported to be worth an estimated £40k, yet the owner failed to pay the car tax for the expensive vehicle.

A spokesperson from the Department of the Environment said: “DVA can confirm that VEAS (the DVA wheel clamping contractor) and the PSNI have been working in partnership this week on wheel clamping operations in the Ballymena area.

“The areas covered have included Larne, Ballymena, Ballycastle, Ballymoney, Armoy, Dunloy and Cloughmills.”

The DVA carries out a computer check each month, as well as roadside checks to identify those vehicles without a valid tax disc. You could face an automatic penalty of £80 as well as a minimum fine of £1,000. Your vehicle could be clamped, impounded or even crushed if caught.
